Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is to bring students to a B1 level as described in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Students who plan to attend the course are expected to have already mastered the general language skills that are described in the CEFR for levels A1 through A2.
Program
The following language topics will be explored through reading, listening and speaking activities, as well as PowerPoint presentations and grammar exercises:
Grammar
The present simple and continuous, action and non-action verbs; the present perfect and past simple; the past simple and past continuous; the future forms: going to, will, the present continuous; comparatives and superlatives; articles (a, an, the and no article); gerunds and infinitives; defining relative clauses, have to and must.
Vocabulary
Common verb phrases, spelling and numbers; describing people: appearance and personality; clothes, prepositions of time and place; holidays; verb phrases; airports; verbs + prepositions; expressions for paraphrasing; housework (make/do); shopping; time expressions; describing a town or a city; opposite verbs; verbs + back; adjectives + prepositions.
Pronunciation
- Final -s/-es; -ed endings; sentence stress and fast speech; word stress; sounding friendly; linking; sentence rhythm; weak forms of to; the letters ow; the letter i.
