Learning Objectives
The workshop aims at giving students the opportunity to continue improving their knowledge of the English language through the use of nursery rhymes for children as a tool for teaching English to primary school children.
Program
The activities will be organised around the comprehension and ways of teaching various nursery rhymes for children with a focus on the following themes:
1. The Versatility of Nursery Rhymes
2. Singing for learning and for fun
During the lessons there will be a focus on reading and writing skills, grammar, listening and pronunciation which are of fundamental importance in preparing students to teach English to primary school children. All students are expected to participate actively and interactively in the lessons.
Description of each activity:
Lesson I – Introduction to the course. Listening and comprehension activities. Students will learn to understand what nursery rhymes are and why they are a valid tool for the teaching of English in primary school.
Lesson II - Practical activities to encourage the understanding of vocabulary and meaning in the chosen rhymes.
Lesson III – Practice of prounciation through songs and teaching activities.
Lesson IV – Practice and preparation for the final assessment.
Lesson V - Final assessment – Group work- the presentation of a nursery rhyme in a fun way as well as the explanation of the lesson plan.
