Learning Objectives
The workshop aims at developing further knowledge of English, and specifically the language referring to psychology, that has been acquired during the first year Course of English of which the workshop is a natural continuation. The workshop aims at providing basic knowledge and practice necessary to be able to make an oral group presentation of a scientific text in English. The workshop will be held exclusively in English
The aims of the course are two-fold as follows:
1. Work on written and oral texts
- Identifying fundamental ideas and key words
- (re)organization of a text with view to an oral presentation
2. Work on presentation
- Phonetics and pronunciation
- Use of a suitable tone of voice, fluidity of speech, ability to involve audience
Program
In class
- 1. Study strategies and discuss techniques for making a presentation in public
- 2. Understand and discuss a text of psychology
- 3. Transform written language into oral language
- 4. Prepare a group presentation of a text provided by the teacher following the modalities learnt during the workshop
- Individual work
1. Viewing of an oral presentation by a native speaker of a specific topic linked to psychology
2. Reading and understanding texts linked to the presentation viewed
3. Preparation of a Group Presentation
n.b. students will be tested at each session on the work indicated in points 1 and 2 indicated above
