This course is taught partially in Italian and partially in a foreign language. Study materials can be provided in the foreign language and the final exam can be taken in the foreign language.

Learning Objectives

The objective of this course is to develop a knowledge of the English language at a B1 level according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for  Languages); to learn vocabulary and structures typically used, to develop reading comprehension skills, to understand spoken English and be able to discuss topics with the correct pronunciation.

Program

The course is principally focused on reading and speaking activities on general topics so that students can practice having a good command of the language.

The course provides students with a short overview of the basic grammar topics and a focus on speaking and listening skills.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding:

At the end of the course, students should show a certain level of knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary topics above-mentioned (B1 level - according to the Common European Framework of Reference). Consequently, they should be confident enough to understand the key points of a text/conversation about general topics.

Applying knowledge and understanding:

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

- develop a reasonable level of knowledge of the grammar topics and vocabulary studied during the course so that the interaction with other speakers becomes quite possible and meaningful;

- understand the key points of a text about general topics;

- ask and answer questions about general topics.

Making judgements:

 At the end of the course, students should be able to:

-  express their preferences for/opinions about general topics;

- develop a certain level of awareness of their language mistakes so that they can correct them.

Communication skills:

 At the end of the course, students should be able to:

- develop a reasonable level of fluency so that the interaction with other speakers becomes quite possible and meaningful;

- take part in a discussion based on the topics of a reading activity.

Learning skills:

Students should have a reasonable level of knowledge of the grammar topics and vocabulary studied during the course in order to become independent enough to deepen their understanding of those topics.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Attendance

Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended.

Assessment

The final exam will consist of three open ended questions.
