Learning Objectives

The general objective of the course is that of offering to the students the basic theoretical and institutional knowledge to evaluate the role of government in the economy and at the same time to give the instruments  to analyze public spending, the main taxes in Italy and the activity of sub-central  governments. The suggested topics investigate the reasons of public intervention in the economy, theory of taxation and public debt and the main theoretical aspects of fiscal decentralization.

    Microeconomics

    Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

    The student will be able to exhibit: basic theoretical knowledge to approach with competence the debate on public intervention in the economy; knowledge of the principal institutions of public finance and of the Italian fiscal system; knowledge of theoretical models of fiscal decentralization; ability to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of public policies at different levels of governments.

    Frontal lessons, seminars with experts, guided exercices in class.

    Attendance

    Attendance is not compulsory, but partecipation to class is highly recommended in order to obtain an adequate preparation aimed at passing the final examination

  • Lectures notes on specific topics are available on Moodle platform.
  • An alternative book in english can be agreed with the professor.

    Assessment

    The exam is written and structured on three questions which must be logically discussed and concern three different topics of the program, with the aim of verifying the presence of minimum requirements in preparation. If the evaluation of the written exam is sufficient, the students will be admitted to the oral exam (up to commission judgement).

    Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

    Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

    To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

    Attendance

    Students are invited to get in touch with the lecturer through the mail and to introduce themselves at least once during office hour to obtain specific explanations on the program and ways of examination

    Notes

    Formal and theory demonstrations will not be asked in the final test, but all the related economic implications will be relevant part of the exam. Graphs are very important.

    This course is borrowed from the course of Scienza delle Finanze of first cycle degree courses in Political, Economic and Government Sciences. Lessons take place at the School of Political and Social Science, at Angeloni Palace in Gherardi Square.
