Learning Objectives
Lessons aim to develop the knowledge about the evolution of writing material, of printing texts production and of the culture circulation. In particular, lessons aim to provide a basic formation on: manuscripts production; printing birth; the evolution of printing technique and of typography books; printing production and its socio-cultural effects; the features of Italian publishing between 1800 and the World War One.
Program
During the course the following topics are considered. Transition from oral to written and print culture. Manuscripts production. Technical, social and cultural aspects of typography. Results of typographical production in the social context. The change of authorship, the role of publisher and other jobs inside typography. The Venetian production and the book trade in 1500. Development of Italian publishing in the following centuries. Book production in 1800 and in the World War One especially for soldiers; the circulation of books in the army.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student must know: the evolution of documents production; writing and printing materials; the typography technique in 1500 and its following evolution; relationship between printing production and socio-cultural changes;the features of Italian publishing in 1800; the peculiarity of publishing during World War One and the promotion of reading among soldiers. The student must have understood the main phenomenon and problems concerning the printing development and they must be able to recognize useful resources for the publishing history. The student must know the specialized lexicon of the discipline .

- Assessment
Multiple choice test, in order to verify the knowledge of the topics, concepts and aspects considered during the lessons. Excellent grades will be given starting from 90% of correct answers. Good and sufficient grades will be given from 89 to 60% of correct answers. Negative grades will be given in presence of less than 60% of correct answers.

- Assessment
Oral examination, in order to verify a clear knowledge and comprehension of the main topics of the discipline and, moreover, the mastery of its specialist lexicon. Excellent grades will be given in presence of a depth study with critical perspective; knowing how to link among the main topics addressed during the course; the use of an appropriate language. Good grades will be given in presence of a good knowledge of the contents; a relatively good critical perspective and connection skills related to the treated topics; a clear speech with appropriate language. Sufficient grades will be given in presence of the achievement of a minimal knowledge, mnemonic study even in presence of some gaps; the use of a not very appropriate language. Negative grades will be given in presence of a bad orientation related to the main topics of the discipline; knowledge gaps; difficulty in speech and inappropriate language.
