We primarily focus on the examination of methods and principles to create and develop images whose main aim is to be the communication channels between persons or between person and the computer. Moreover, the module intends to provide the basis for the professional use of the technologies of the digital imagine. All the issue related to the creation and the development of the vector and the raster images for on line and off line applications will be addressed.

Digital images:

  • resolution and dimension:
  • tonal scale and the depth of the image;
  • dithering;
  • sampling an image, the devices for capturing, watching and reproducing;
  • the color, the principal color spaces;
  • the relations among pixels, the distance between pixels;
  • filters for images, mask filters.

Basic concepts of raster and vector graphics:

  • the settings of a document;
  • drawing;
  • operations with objects;
  • transformation and distortion of the objects;
  • the use of levels;
  • symbols and styles;
  • lines and fillings;
  • color management;
  • use of the text;
  • saving and exporting the files.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

All the students must achieve as follows:

1. Knowledge and skills of understanding: Basic concepts of raster and vector graphics, the setting of a document, drawing, operations with objects, transformation and distortion of the images, use of the levels, symbols and styles, colours, lines and fillings, management of the colour, use of the text, print, saving and exporting the files,

1.1 The students achieve this basic knowledge by attending the courses and the laboratory seminaries, the study of the texts discussed in the classroom and the practice in the laboratory/class.

2. Ability to implement the knowledge and understanding through the ability to analyze the projects of vector graphics.

2.1 Skills acquired through laboratory practices in the classroom.

  • Excellent grades will be given in presence of: a good critical perspective and in-depth study; knowing how to link among them the main subjects addressed during the course; the use of an appropriate language.
  • Good grades will be given in presence of:  good mnemonic knowledge of the contents; a relatively good critical perspective and connection skills related to the treated topics; the use of appropriate language.
  • Sufficient grades will be given in presence of: the achievement of minimal knowledge on the treated themes, even in presence of some gaps; the use of a not-appropriate language.
  • Negative grades will be given in presence of: a difficult orientation related to the treated topics; knowledge gaps; the use of a not-appropriate language.
Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
