Learning Objectives

Lessons aim to develop the knowledge about: bibliography, library science and information science; types, functions and services of libraries; birth and aims of bibliography; bibliographic tools and bibliographic citation styles

Program

During the course the following topics are considered. Birth, development and framework of library science and bibliography; relationships with other information disciplines; elements of history of libraries; various types of libraries; catalogues; reference service and other services. Elements of history of bibliography; evolution and functions of bibliography; national bibliography and other types of bibliographies; methodology of bibliographic research; traditional and electronic bibliographic resources; compilation of bibliographies and bibliographic citation guidelines

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The student must show to know and to understand the main theoretical concepts of library science, of bibliography and documentation, moreover the problems related to their evolution. The student must know how to search the online public access catalogues, how to evaluate bibliographic results, and how to compile a bibliography. The student must show to be able to debate questions about the course topics and to have autonomy of judgment. The student must know the specialized lexicon of library science and bibliography. Moreover, the student must show to have the ability to go deeper and to broaden the knowledge about these disciplines.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

Multiple choice test, in order to verify a clear knowledge and comprehension of the topics, concepts and aspects of the discipline. Excellent grades will be given starting from 90% of correct answers. Good and sufficient grades will be given from 89 to 60% of correct answers. Negative grades will be given in presence of less than 60% of correct answers.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Assessment

Oral examination, in order to verify the comprehension of the main topics of the disciplines and the mastery of its specialized lexicon. Moreover, bibliographic citation short test.  Excellent grades will be given in presence of a depth study with critical perspective; knowing how to link among the main topics addressed during the course; the use of an appropriate language. Good grades will be given in presence of a good knowledge of the contents; a relatively good critical perspective and connection skills related to the treated topics; a clear speech with appropriate language. Sufficient grades will be given in presence of the achievement of a minimal knowledge, mnemonic study even in presence of some gaps; the use of a not very appropriate language. Negative grades will be given in presence of a bad orientation related to the main topics of the discipline; knowledge gaps; difficulty in speech and inappropriate language.
