Learning Objectives
The student:
can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
Program
1° -2° SEMESTER (THROUGHOUT THE YEAR)
Perfecting summary writing skills (various types of texts)
Building storytelling skills (PIXAR STORY IN A BOX - Kahn Academy, research articles and texts)
Peer work corrections in class (throughout the course as assignments are handed in)
Various reading comprehension exercises will be done throughout the year.
Video-based materials and exercises will be used throughout the year.
Speaking activities will be based on current events, readings of interest, videos of interest
2° SEMESTER
Multimodality (based on research articles and texts)
Giving Presentations (practical advice on how to prepare and present an engaging presentation)

GRAMMAR AND USE OF ENGLISH: THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
Vocabulary building exercises (including academic language – continued)
Advanced collocations with exercises
Advanced idiomatic expressions with exercises
Editing exercises - for example, identifying and correcting:
unparallel structures
misplaced and dangling modifiers
punctuation
wordiness
redundancy
Advanced grammar exercises: appositives, relative pronouns and clauses, the subjunctive, order of adjectives, position of prepositional phrases
We will be using Townson and OWL at Purdue University resources (and others)
