Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide the students with the basic knowledge of optical and scanning electron microscopy.
At the end of the course the student will have learned the techniques for the preparation of the samples to be observed with the electronic microscope, the principles of observation and the possible uses of these microscopic techniques.
Program
Basic knowledge of resolving power. Comparison between light microscopy and electron microscopy. Explanation of the tools and comparison between them. Specimen preparation techniques for optical, transmission electron and scanning microscope observation: specimen fixation, dehydration and embedding. Explanation of the preparation of the samples for the observation of immuno-labeling under the transmission electron microscope. Observation of the samples. Analysis of the possible applications of optical and electron microscopy in scientific research.
Bridging Courses
There are no prerequisites.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
At the end of the course the students will have learned the techniques for the sample preparation, to be observed with the electron microscope, basic knowledge of the different microscopes and the principles of observation. They will also have learned the possible applications of these microscopic techniques in scientific research.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Activities in the laboratory, for this activity the students will be divided into groups. (With Dott. Sabrina Burattini support)
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Face-to-face lessons.
- Attendance
Compulsory presence.
- Course books
There are no texts, the teacher will leave free access to his power points and will provide other material to the student.
- Assessment
Final written evaluation.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
