Learning Objectives
The practice lessons aim to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge of the instruments and devices, designed for both lab and field settings, commonly used for exercise physiology and biomechanics assessments of healthy and pathologic subjects or recreational and elite athletes.
Program
- Exercise testing principles 0.25 CFU
- Anthropometric (bio-impedence analysis and skinfold-assessment) and joint flexibility (field test), theoretical and practical lecture and analysis of the results 0.5 CFU
- Cardiorespiratory endurance assessment (sub-maximal incremental exercise test, maximal incremental exercise test and critical power and maximal lactate steady state testing protocol), theoretical and practical lecture and analysis of the results 1 CFU
- Muscular fitness assessment (force [1- and multiple- RM assessment] and power [assessment of the force-speed-power profile using load cells and encoders and of jumps using force platforms]), theoretical and practical lecture and analysis of the results 0.75 CFU
- Anaerobic capacity (Wingate test), theoretical and practical lecture and analysis of the results 0.25 CFU
- Evaluation of the athlete's profile (profiling), comparison with the reference benchmarks (benchmarking), and short- and long- term goals 0.25
Bridging Courses
None.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
At the end of the internship the students will have to show that the following knowledges and skills:
Knowledge and understanding
Know and understand how to use the instruments used for functional assessment
Applying knowledge and understanding
Knowing how to apply their knowledge and understanding on the topic when using the instruments used for functional assessment
Making judgements
Knowing how to deal autonomously with problems and manage particular cases that can be encountered during the use of the instruments used for functional assessment through a professional and scientific approach
Communication skills
Knowing how to communicate clearly and effectively, both with specialists and non-specialists, the acquired knowledge and its practical application in different settings
Learning skills
Knowing how to stay up to date on the instruments used for functional assessment through a professional and scientific approach
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Some of the instruments that are physically within the laboratory in which the practice lessons will be held will be used in simulated assessments with the aim to provide the student with the possibility to either be tested or be the tester.
- Innovative teaching methods
Problem-based learning
Learning by doing
- Attendance
Minimum mandatory attendance: 2/3 of total practice lessons. As for the practical activities, attendance is intended as the active participation in the lesson.
- Assessment
Formative and summative assessment will be performed by means of practical examinations and written reports.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
