Learning Objectives
The internship is intended to provide the student with basic knowledge of some of the techniques normally used in biochemistry and molecular biology. The primary objective is to illustrate to students the techniques for the study of muscle cells in differentiation.
Program
Introductory seminar on the differentiation of muscle cells and the techniques for their study.
In the laboratory:
- in vitro propagation of murine myoblasts;
- specific staining for cell structures in myoblasts and myotubes;
- Electrosctimulation of myotubes;
- molecular biology techniques with particular attention to Real Time PCR for the study of gene expression;
- electrophoretic techniques for the study of the proteome;
Bridging Courses
None
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
In agreement with the Dublin Descriptors, in order to pass the exam, the student must demonstrate:
- Have achieved a knowledge and understanding of the C2C12 myoblast experimental model and basic laboratory techniques that allow him to set up the discussion in a coherent, logical way and be able to make connections between the various topics;
- Knowing how to set up a discussion on the basic issues on the techniques used for the study of muscle cells;
- Knowing how to present one's knowledge with properties of language and scientific vocabulary;
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
The teaching material is uploaded on Blended learning
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Lectures and laboratory activities
- Attendance
Obligation to attend 70% of the lessons
- Course books
Didactic material will be distributed during the lectures and will be made available on the University's blended learning website
- Assessment
Elaboration of a written paper. The level of knowledge and depth of the program topics, the ability to relate the different methodological aspects and their applications will be assessed.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
- Teaching
Students are required to attend so there are no alternative teaching methods.
