Learning Objectives

The university course aims to provide useful knowledge for actively participating in the promotion, organization and management of social services; starting from the knowledge of legislation both at national and Marche Region level governing social services, it will address in depth the implementing regulations on certain kinds of social services. Successively, students will be involved also through testimonials and guided tours,  allowing them to experience the organizational and managerial practice. Work psychology issues will be analyzed which are fundamental for understanding the problems and dynamics of social service management

Program

Starting from an analysis of the historical and legislative development of social services in Italy and in the Marche Region it will pay particular attention to the organization and management of the most important social services for senior citizens, minors, disabled persons and mentally disabled, as well as to certain issues related to work psychology which are useful in social service management. The teaching will deal with the following issues:

- analysis of national and regional legislation on social services - n. 2 hours

- social and health services for minors - n. 4 hours

- social and health services for the disabled - n. 4 hours

- social and health services for the elderly - n. 4 hours

- social and health services for the mentally disabled - n. 4 hours

- motivation to work - n. 2 hours

- Leadership - n. 2 hours

- group work - n. 2 hours

- The psychology of health and illness - n. 2 hours

-Non technical skills e soft skills - n. 4 ore

- stress, burnout, mobbing - n. 4 hours

- communication with fragile users - n. 2 hours

Regarding the subject matter the student will need to demonstrate:

Mastery of the national and regional legislation governing social services

Knowledge of social services in areas of interest regarding senior citizens, minors, disabled persons and mental disabilities

Knowledge of welfare, educational and rehabilitation needs for social service users

Knowledge of dynamics of frail/family/service users

Capacity to plan social services

Knowledge of the main areas of interest about work psychology for the social services, work motivation, leadership, teamwork, stress, burnout, mobbing, communication, relationship with death.

The student has to participate in the management of a social service, understand the problems related to frail users , involve the family and have knowledge of the main teamwork dynamics and the psychological difficulties which caring relationships can entail

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

Meetings will be organized with privileged interlocutors (public administrators, family members of users, managers of social services), classroom exercises and, if possible, guided tours of social services. within the expected number of hours

Assessment

The evaluation criteria used for the tests are: - relevance and effectiveness of the answers in relation to the contents of the program; - level of articulation of the response; - adequacy of the disciplinary language used.
Oral exam. carrying out of ongoing tests to verify the understanding of the topics covered

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
