This course aims to introduce students to the acquisition of knowledge, critical and analytical tools with respect to the methods of social participation within a gender perspective. The course will take place through theoretical lessons, seminars, exercises. In-depth readings of the single themes will be indicated from time to time.

The course will be organized as follows, alternating frontal lessons with other in-depth activities, discussions with experts, specialists and institutional subjects operating in the world of social services:

1. Introduction to the course and the topics that will be addressed in the course.

2. What is gender? Introduction to the concept of gender in historical and comparative perspective through the different theories.

3. The dimensions of gender. The application and applicability of the concept of gender to fields of experience

4. Discriminations at the crossroads: Intersectionality Theory as an operational tool"

5. Gender and work participation

6. Gender and political participation

7. Gender relations family forms and life courses

8. Planning of social services in the plural world

Knowledge and understanding: This course aims to introduce students to the acquisition of knowledge, observation skills and interpretation of gender differences, the gender perspective and the pluralities that characterize the system of relationships in the context local and international social present. Particular attention is paid to the separation between the public and private spheres, to the construction of gender models in the political, cultural, economic and working spheres. The construction of subjective identities, the forms and methods of social participation within a gender perspective are the aspects on which the preparation of students is concerned. The teaching methods with which these objectives are pursued concern both frontal lessons dedicated to the focus and definition of concepts, and thematic seminar moments of in-depth analysis of specific themes and comparisons with specialist figures, as well as participatory lessons that require the active participation of the students. of the attendees.

- Applied knowledge and understanding: students are required to have the ability to acquire analytical and design tools, needs, the creation of services, their operation and functionality. The didactic methods with which these objectives will be pursued consist of resources that can be obtained from the lessons and the various didactic activities proposed in the course and also in exercises to develop the planning skills of territorial services as well as the analysis of specific contexts.

- Judgment autonomy: students must acquire the ability to connect various aspects of social life, plurality and change, as well as develop a comparative analysis capacity between different social realities. Furthermore, autonomous ability to re-elaborate, evaluate and judge through the tools that will be made available during the course is required. In this regard, the individual papers will be very important.

- Communication skills: students must acquire a specialized vocabulary through the appropriation of concepts and definitions, as well as their explanation and development in specific written papers, presented orally and discussed in public. The frontal and participatory teaching methods will support the achievement of these results.

- Learning skills: students must have developed good learning skills, which allow them to deepen the knowledge acquired during the course by tackling subsequent study paths on the issues of social participation read from a gender perspective. Lectures, seminars, collective discussions, data analysis and individual papers will be the teaching methods with which these objectives are pursued.

Teaching support activities through the participation in the course of experts of in-depth topics pertinent to the topics addressed in the course, educational visits to local services and classroom exercises.

Assessment

The assessment takes place individually and is carried out by a commission chaired by the professor in charge of the course. The assessment method for attending students involves the drafting of a written paper and an oral interview. The written thesis consists in the design of a social service that takes into account the gender perspective in its premises, organization and objectives and will be delivered and discussed in the classroom before the end of the course. The written work is then integrated by the oral interview which will focus on readings agreed with the teacher during the lessons. The final exam therefore has the purpose of verifying the ability to understand, elaborate and apply the concepts, theories and tools that are presented and discussed during the lessons of the course, for which reference is made to the Syllabus in more detail.
