Learning Objectives
From the knowledge gained in the field of clinical psychology, the laboratory aims to develop clinical skills in operations of a diagnostic nature, assessment in terms of prognosis, outcomes, and possible therapeutic interventions. This competence is embodied in the ability to develop clinical reasoning in the assessment of individual cases. This means bringing the general theories of clinical psychology of a phenomenological-dynamic setting into close articulation (maintaining the principles of coherence and ostensibility) with the symptoms, lived experiences, and history of the individual patient and his or her relationships.
Students are expected to demonstrate that they have acquired this knowledge by completing exercises during the lab and by writing a final paper.
Program
The program has two steps. The first step is to apply the various diagnostic criteria acquired in theoretical training through the DSM-5-TR, the PDM-2, Kernberg's structural interview, or tools such as the SWAP-200 to specific individual cases drawn from the literature or suggested by the Professor. The second step is to make the diagnosis the starting point for clinical reasoning that makes sense of the patient's clinical picture, relating the clinical manifestations of his suffering to a thorough knowledge of his lived world and the history of his experiences, life events, any traumatic experiences, and the history of his relationships. Special attention is given to the transgenerational dimension whenever possible.
Each day's work includes a first part of theoretical-methodological framing of a clinical case and a second part of group exercise.
