Learning Objectives
The main objective of the course is to make future educators understand that:
- health education is a primary educational need;
- it is necessary to identify and analyze factors correlated with health;
- prevention is essential to keep a population healthy;
- we must contribute to the implementation of Health Education programmes.
Program
ntroduction to Hygiene.
Health education in childhood: health promotion and behavior, communication, participation
General information on infectious diseases: main characteristics of microorganisms, relationships between microorganisms and host, concepts of infection and disease, the indivudual defenses against infections.
Epidemiologal data of infectious diseases: sources of infection, methods of transmission of infections, conditions favoring infections.
Prevention and control of infectious diseases in the first years of life: what vaccines are, mandatory vaccinations, the vaccination calendar, immunoglobulins and passive immunoprophylaxis; definitions of notification, isolation, cleansing, disinfection, sterilization, disinfestation.
Preventive and control measures of infectious risk in children communities: the behavior of educational staff, hygiene of the child, hygiene of objects used by the child, hygiene of the environments.
Nutritional hygiene: the main nutrients and food groups, indications for correct nutrition. Feeding at the nursery: natural and artificial breastfeeding, complementary feeding, feeding from 1 to 3 years, special diets.
Food hygiene and safety: food hygiene safety, food contamination, food preservation and control methods.
Multifactorial diseases in childhood: obesity, allergies and intolerances, diabetes.

D1: Knowledge and understanding: The student, through participation in frontal teaching activities and individual independent study, will have to know the fundamentals of hygiene and understand the concepts of health, prevention and health education in childhood.
D2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: The student must be able to process the knowledge acquired, be able to evaluate the risk of diseases' diffusion within the children's community and identify the relevant prevention and control measures; know the hygienic-sanitary aspects of foods and the nutritional aspects of childhood nutrition.
D3. Judgment skills: The student must be able to make critical reflections and, if necessary, independently delve into issues related to well-being and health, food and disease prevention. These skills will be acquired in classroom discussions with the teacher and between colleagues in classroom interaction, as well as during the discussion phase of the exam
D4. Communication skills: The student must be able to use language relevant to the discipline, take a participatory and critical attitude to the topics of the lessons, and be able to use interpersonal communication techniques.
D5. Learning ability: The student must be able to apply the knowledge acquired to carry out educational health promotion interventions and to protect and promote child health in children's communities.

Supporting Activities
At the end of the course, students (attending and non-attending ones) will be able to optionally carry out a formative self-assessment test, in order to verify the adequacy of their preparation. This test will be available on the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it. The calendar and methods, in detail, will be communicated to students in class at the beginning of the course.

- Teaching
Through frontal lessons accompanied by visual material, the topics relating to the contents of the course will be illustrated and discussed and group activities will be carried out to delve deeper into some topics covered in the frontal lessons. Design of an educational health promotion program applicable for nursery schools.

Non-attending students can prepare for the exam using the textbook and the material included in the moodle platform (http://blended.uniurb.it).
- Assessment
The teaching is organized into modules, the final exam is unique, however the profit on each individual module must be verified.
For the Hygiene and Child Health Education module, the exam will take place through an oral interview consisting of questions on at least 3 topics covered in the course. The final evaluation is expressed in thirtieths.
The exam will have the aim of verifying the knowledge acquired and will also allow you to evaluate the ability to correlate the various topics covered in the course (descriptors 1 and 2), communication skills (descriptor 4) and the ability to solve problems of a practical nature ( descriptors 3 and 5).
The evaluation criteria used for the tests are: relevance and effectiveness of the answers in relation to the contents of the program; level of articulation of the response; adequacy of the disciplinary language used.
For students with DSA certification, the provisions in force apply, according to law 170/2010.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Attending students are authorized to take notes in class to be used exclusively for personal use. You are not permitted to record the lessons, provide them to anyone else, or make commercial use of them without prior written authorization from me.
