Learning Objectives

Teach the fundamentals of Hydrogeology and develop the knowledge of the quali-quantitative dynamics of groundwater ( GW ). Frame the principal aspects of water resources’management, expecially related to the regional setting. Classes will include training activities both indoor and in field.

Program

The Water Cycle and Water Budget ( WB ) . Measure of the WB’s parameters. Soil’s physical and hydraulic parameters. Surficial runoff and hydrometry. Aquifers: classification.

GW runoff and hydraulics. Darcy’s law. Determination of Hydraulic conductivity. GW’s head measurements. Field piezometric surveys. Piezometric maps.

Springs: types and classification. Yeld regression’curves.

Fundamentals of water chemistry and chemical parameters, main ions.

Groundwater’ pollution: main types and processes involved

Groundwater-seawater interaction. Well-head protection areas

Water wells: design, drilling, construction, hydraulic testing. Step Drawdown Test and aquifer’s test.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Comprehension of the basic concepts of GW’ flow and surficial evidences ( Springs, GW seepage )

Evaluation and layout of a typical WB

Interpretation of Hydrogeologic maps

Criteria and basic skills of Hydrogeologic surveys,  hydrometry, water quality sampling.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

Oral examination

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
