Learning Objectives

In the field of health and well-being products, medical devices and cosmetic products are becoming increasingly important. The industry is facing, particularly for medical devices, new legislative and regulatory provisions which aim to increasingly increase the safety and effectiveness of products.

In this framework, both technicians in industry and pharmacists practicing the pharmacy profession must be able to effectively manage the technical and regulatory evolution that accompanies these products.

The course aims to provide the student with operational tools in the field of Medical Devices and Cosmetic Products to provide users entering the Pharmacy with the most appropriate advice for their needs. During the lessons, concrete cases relating to cosmetic products and medical devices are addressed.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Knowledge and understanding. The student must be able to describe the general information of the medical devices and cosmetic products most commonly treated in pharmacies. You will need to know the principles underlying the functioning of medical devices and the action of cosmetic products in relation to their functionality and composition.

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The student must be able to correctly use the terminology, regulatory and functional classification of medical devices and cosmetic products. In particular, the student, faced with a problem or a request formulated by a patient/customer of the Pharmacy, will be able to recommend the most suitable product to achieve the therapeutic or health objective,

Autonomy of judgment. The student must be able to critically evaluate the role of the substances that make up a cosmetic system or the components of a medical device. He must also be able to evaluate the relationship between the functionality and the composition of the treated products.

Communication skills. The student must be able to describe the concepts learned during the course expressing themselves clearly, with appropriate terms and with appropriate examples.

Learning ability: the course is structured in such a way as to allow the student to make connections between what is illustrated in class with what can easily be found in pharmacies or commercial establishments that deal with medical devices and cosmetics. In particular, connect the form of presentation, the composition of the product with the therapeutic (Medical Devices) or cosmetological activities.

Assessment

Written exam with 3 questions related to the Medical Devices Module and 3 questions related to the Cosmetic Products Module.

Registration for the exam is subject to registration in them 3.

If the student, after registering for the exam, decides not to attend the test, he is required to notify the teacher also by email if the online mode is closed.

Those who registered will not show up or unsubscribe will skip an appeal session.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
