Learning Objectives
The course aims at providing methods, strategies and adequate tools for understanding, translating and rewriting children and young adult literary texts of Iberian area (LIJE). It will start from a brief presentation of the LIJE and then move on, through an in-depth analysis of the main theories on translation, rewriting and adaptation process, to practice through analysis and comparison between published versions of selected texts, and a constant translation and rewriting exercise. The course aims at encouraging reflection on linguistic and formal reworking process of a text in relation to a series of extra- and paratextual factors, such as the expressive needs and previous knowledge of the new model reader, the frequent presence of illustrations and the didactic-pedagogical function generally attributed to the message conveyed by Children and Young Adult Literature.
Program

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
- Knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, students will have adequate knowledge of the linguistic-formal aspects of LIJE, as well as of the theory on translation and rewriting, demonstrating adequate analytical, translation and textual reformulation skills.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: at the end of the course, students will be able to recognize and reproduce the textual structures presented in class, as well as the basic notions of translation and rewriting, developing and strengthening their interpretative-analytical and translations skills in Spanish.
- Making judgments: at the end of the course, students will be able to evaluate their own knowledge, demonstrating that they can make up for any deficiencies, even independently, using the tools provided in class by the teacher.
- Communication skills: at the end of the course, students will be able to translate and reformulate written texts in Spanish in a clear and effective way, arguing in a complete and adequate way the theoretical aspects considered and their application choices, and expressing their personal point of view.
