Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the distinctive features of traditional Chinese civilization, its philosophical reflections, culture, and social life. Through critical and thematic analysis, students will explore historical China to acquire the tools necessary to interpret the dynamics of contemporary China. Particular attention will be given to the processes of economic, political, and cultural modernization in Chinese society, examined within the context of global changes and international influences.

• The Multicultural Society and the Challenges of Pluralism
• Tibet and Xinjiang: Political and Cultural Issues
• Taiwan and Hong Kong: History, Identity, and Relations with Mainland China
• Festivals, Traditions, and Cultural Celebrations
• The Chinese Education System
• Social Stereotypes Regarding Emotions and Marriage
• Concubinage and the Female Condition in History and Contemporary Society
• Family Planning Policies
• Censorship in China: Mechanisms and Social Impacts
• The Social Credit System: Functioning and Implications
• Chinese Music and Opera: History and Cultural Influences
• Religion in China and Relations with the Vatican
• China's Role in the Global Economy

• Knowledge and Understanding: Students will acquire a solid understanding of Chinese cultural identity and its main features, including the historical, philosophical, and social factors that define it.
• Applying Knowledge and Understanding: Students will develop analytical skills applicable to the topics covered during the course, demonstrating the ability to contextualize and interpret Chinese cultural phenomena in various situations.
• Making Judgements: Students will be able to formulate independent and critical judgments on Chinese cultural phenomena, based on a thorough understanding and informed analysis of the issues discussed.
• Communication Skills: Students will be able to express their knowledge and reflections on the Chinese cultural context clearly and precisely, using appropriate language and sound arguments.
• Learning Skills: Students will acquire methodological tools and critical and bibliographic skills necessary for undertaking independent research in Chinese culture.

- Assessment
The exam will consist of an oral interview structured into two main parts:
• The results of learning will be assessed through an oral exam, which will evaluate mastery of the knowledge on the chosen topics. Additionally, the final evaluation will take into account class attendance and performance, considering active participation, interaction during guided discussions, and engagement in educational activities.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
