The course is spread over two training courses, one of 10 credits and one of 6 credits. The first course consists of six parts while the second deals only with the first five (see the subdivision under "Program").

The course studies the relationship between economy and the environment in its many aspects. The causes of environmental degradation and control policies are analyzed, with particular attention to the formulation of collective choices, the evaluation of environmental assets, the various regulatory methodologies, the sustainable management of natural resources.

The student is prepared for the understanding and analysis of the environmental problems that have emerged in recent years and also for the knowledge and use of new control methods.

The course provides tools to help understand what environmental assessment and regulatory policies are. A specific part of the study course (which is addressed only by students with the 10 CFU course) is dedicated to an in-depth study of the themes of the circular economy and the ecological transition.

Part Four: The economic control of the environment. X. The use of the market to protect the environment. - XI. The establishment of taxes for the use of the environment. - XII. Ecological taxes. - XIII. Trade in environmental permits. - XIV. The setting of environmental standards.

Part five: Natural resources. XV. Renewable resources. - XVI. Non-renewable resources.

Part Sixth: The circularity of economic and environmental systems. XVII The circular economy and ecological transition.

Knowledge and understanding: The students will learn different theories and the empirical evidence regarding the foundations, the tools and effects of government interventions for environamntal evaluation and protection.

Applying knowledge and understanding: The students will develop the ability to apply the analytical methods presented to real world socio-economic policy problems related to environmental degradation and protection.

Making judgments: The students will develop the ability to assess economic situations, to relate them to concrete problems, and to develop policy recommendations in the fields of environmental economics.

Communication skills: Through discussions in class, the students will develop the ability to autonomously debate with sound terminology economic policy problems using appropriate analytical tools and evidence.

Learning skills: At the end of the course, the students are expected to acquire the ability to develop learning skills that allow them to continue to study at an advanced level.

The knowledge, understanding and ability to communicate are assessed with a written exam with open questions [insuff. (less than 18), suff.(18-21), good (22-26), excellent (27-30 e lode)]. After having passed the written exam students can attempt an oral examination.

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
