Learning Objectives
Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Program
We will work through the study book English File B1+/B2, Oxford. Students will be encouraged to speak English in every lesson through role-playing games and group/pair work. They will be able to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar topics that are regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Students will be able to handle most situations that may arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken. They will be able to produce simple connected texts on familiar or personally interesting topics. Students will be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions and provide brief reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
First Semester Grammar Items:
Nouns and Articles; Possessives, Pronouns, and Quantifiers; Prepositions; Adjectives and Adverbs; Present Tenses; Past Tenses; Future Tenses; Sentence Transformation Activities; Final Review
Second Semester Grammar Items:
Review of First Semester Grammar; Modal verbs; Conditionals; Gerunds vs. Infinitives; Reported Speech; Passive Form; Linking Words; Final Review
