Learning Objectives

  • The achievement of a full C1 CEFR level in the 4 language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
  • Knowledge of business vocabulary

Program

During the course, the student will learn to write 

  • business correspondence (email)
  • business reports
  • self-assessments

He/she will be helped to reach a full C1 level, through reading, writing and listening exercises. He or she will also expand his or her commercial vocabulary, with special reference to topics such as:

  • innovation
  • the circular economy
  • marketing/customer engagement
  • tourism
  • conflict management in the business environment
  • the mindset of the successful entrepreneur

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the language assistant in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the language assistant specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

NB: The student in the language assessment must have done ALL the exercises in the textbooks that will also be the subject of the interview.  

Notes

The student is expected to keep throughout the academic year two logs: a Reading Log and a Listening Log, in which he/she will record individual work done at home.  

For the Reading Log, in addition to books and other materials chosen by the student based on his or her interests, the student is asked to visit/read the following websites daily for the purpose of expanding his or her vocabulary and cultural information, and staying up-to-date on current events.

For the Listening Log, in addition to movies, TV programs and podcasts chosen by the student based on his or her interests, students are asked to visit and ulitize the following websites for the purpose of expanding their vocabulary and cultural information, and knowledge of the world of work:

  • The Economics of Everyday Things (on Spotify)
  • More or Less: Behind the Statistics (on Spotify)
  • Ted Business (on Spotify)
  • www.ted.com 

LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

For the language assessment, the student should bring both the Reading Log and Listening Log and be prepared to talk not only about the textbooks but also about this individual work done independently.

In addition, the student will need to bring at least three of the assignments written and corrected by Professor Burke assigned during the academic year.  These assignments must be completed within the time frame indicated on the Blended page.
