Learning Objectives
This course aims to provide PhD students with the fundamental principles of research integrity, exploring also the main violations of research integrity.
Program
The scheduled lessons will critically analyze the role of ethics and integrity in the scientifc resarch, focusing on: Introduction and historical background; Fundamental principles of research integrity; Good Research Practices; Violations of Research Integrity; Research Integrity and Ethics; Why does scientific misconduct occur?; Scientific misconduct's impact.
The course will be enriched by the participation of invited speakers who will address specific topics related to the subject in question.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The specific competencies developed by the course can be listed, using the Dublin Descriptor System as follows.
D1. Knowledge and understanding: Students must demonstrate adequate knowledge on the principles of research integrity and the main violations of research integrity.
D2. Applying knowledge and understanding: Students must be able to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts included in the course and know how to apply them in the daily research activity.
D3. Making judgements: Students will have to demonstrate their ability to recognize the application of the principles of research integrity, as well as its violation.
D4. Communication skills: Students must demonstrate the ability to communicate their knowledge in a thorough, precise, and comprehensive manner to people already competent in the field, as well as demonstrate that they can summarize and simplify the topics in a popular way so as to be understandable even to those who are not experts in the sector, always adopting an adequate and precise terminology.
D5. Learning skills: Students will have to demonstrate the ability to reach conclusions, examples, or parallels autonomously, on the basis of what they have learned from the program and on the basis of what they have learned using their own initiatives, by autonomously finding additional sources and through in class discussions.

- Innovative teaching methods
Frontal lessons may be enriched with some innovative teaching methods, which will be proposed to the class and selected between the DEBATE or FLIPPED CLASSROOM forms based on the feedback from the students.

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
