Learning Objectives
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:
The lessons will be introduced by the theory and history of the treatment of the gap over the centuries, starting from the medieval approach, the evolution over the centuries, arriving at the determination of the twentieth-century Restoration Cards and the current different methodological theories.
Different stuccos will be explained and prepared for the integration of gaps in works of art, both natural and synthetic.
The main pictorial integration techniques used for the pictorial restoration of paintings on canvas, wood and wooden sculptures will be explained and illustrated: hatching; selection and chromatic abstraction and integration of abrasions with lowering of tone and glazing.
Program
Module I: Introduction (9 hours)
Theory: History and theory of lacuna treatment. (9 hours)
Module II: Stuccatura (32 hours)
Theory: Methodological introduction of the concept of stucco. Comparison between the Florentine and Roman methods in the treatment of lacuna. Case studies. (5 hours)
Presentation of the characteristics required of stuccos.
Laboratory: Preparation of different stuccos, both traditional (Bologna plaster and animal glue) and innovative (Aquazol, Plextol, Arbocel). (5 hours)
Preparation of small tablets with different types of stuccos. (5 hours)
Stuccatura of paintings on canvas and panel and material processing of the surface. (17 hours)
Module III: Pictorial integration (84 hours)
Theory: Methodological introduction of hatching (ICR method) and chromatic selection (OPD method). Comparison between the Florentine and Roman methods in the treatment of the gap in different case studies: from the Annunciation by Antonello da Messina to the Altarpiece of San Marco by Beato Angelico. (12 hours)
Laboratory: Preparation of materials for watercolor retouching, Aquazol and Laropal A-81. (15 hours)
Exercises on techniques for pictorial integration, both on paper and on tablets made in the II module of stuccoing. (20 hours)
Pictorial integration of paintings on canvas and panel and wooden sculptures present in the laboratory. (37 hours)
Bridging Courses
Paper exercises of the line for hatching in laboratory courses I, II year.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The aim of the course is to provide students with all the tools for a critical reading of the gaps present in the works and to be able to implement the best methodological choices; as well as having mastery of the various materials and laboratory equipment. Understanding of the different methods of pictorial integration of the gaps.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Supporting Activities
Guided tours by a teacher and assistant are planned at the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche.

Frontal lessons and practical exercises; Production of tablets in the exam laboratory.
- Attendance
In addition to the obligation to attend lectures and laboratory practice, the student must read and comment in class on the days of debate the articles provided by the teacher. In addition, the student must complete the hatching and color selection tablets for the in-person exam.

- Assessment
Verification of laboratory activity and participation in lessons. Verification of the activity carried out in class and completion of the ‘exam tests’ tablets with hatching and color selection. Oral exam in presence, after delivery of the tablets, on the teaching program provided by the teacher in the handout.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

- Teaching
Participation in face-to-face lessons remotely or study of the handouts.
- Attendance
The non-attending student must read the articles provided by the teacher and the texts cited in the essential bibliography. In addition, the student must present photographs of the hatching and color selection tablets sent by email before the start of the online exam.
