Learning Objectives
Themes
The course is designed to train a professional figure able to support potential beneficiaries in accessing European funds (distributed both on a national and regional scale, or directly by the European Commission through thematic programs, as well as through the managing authorities in charge of managing the European territorial cooperation) through calls, in areas that transversely affect the sector of climate change and its impacts, and sustainable territorial and environmental management.

Objectives
The course provides the foundation for a range of professional roles including:
- trainer and consultant for mitigation and adaptation actions and the governance of natural risks;
- consultant for the circular economy;
- advisor for the management of territorial systems;
- environment and climate change specialist;
- consultant for sustainable urban planning;
- expert in the planning and management of interventions financed with European funds;
- civil servant/administrative officer at local authorities in the sectors directly involved in the use of extraordinary financial resources of European origin (e.g. LLPP, Europe Office, Environment, etc.)
Contents and structure of the course / Syllabus
Activities of PhD Students
the course provides a transdisciplinary preparation, by integrating two areas:
- Scientific and territorial
The contents provide the ability to assess the criticalities of environmental scenarios as a preparatory element for the definition of adaptation measures of the territorial system to the impacts of climatic variations and anthropic pressure.
The thematic objectives are aimed at evaluating the anthropogenic modifications of natural systems induced by, also in relation to the impacts of climate change in progress.
The scientific basis of the process of climate change is provided through a first preparatory segment, during which the physical-chemical and environmental aspects of the climate system components and dynamics, the climate natural variability, and the anthropogenic impact. A teaching module will follow this first segment focused on to the definition and the analysis of the impacts of climate change, and the mitigation and adaptation strategies in the main natural and anthropically modified territorial systems and subsystems.
- Europlanning Design
The thematic objectives are the skills necessary to:
• evaluate and know how to choose the lines of European programming and financing and their function for the definition of strategic projects aimed at the environmental and territorial sustainability;
• interact with the community devices and rules for the distribution of community funds in the context of the protection of the territory and the environment, and sustainable development;
• manage the technologies and methodologies necessary for drafting and presenting projects;
• manage the obtained funds according to the administrative-accounting rules of the various programs, in order to ensure effective and efficient administration in the implementation of the activities and investments of the project.
The training courses of the Europlanning segment are structured by macro areas of intervention in relation to the 6 main missions including the PNRR, the five strategic objectives of the EU Regulations 2021-2027 (for the structural funds) and the three pillars of Horizon Europe (for the European funds directly managed).
Such a transdisciplinary approach aims to train a professional figure capable of guiding and defining the planning needs and the planning and management tools of transformative actions concerning territorial criticalities.
In addition to lectures, the course includes internships in a company (4CFU; 100 hours) and design activities (8CFU; 200 hours)
Information about final examination
Course structure and research training
The final test will consist in the preparation of a written paper on the experience carried out during the internship which will be discussed in front of the commission in charge of evaluating the final test.
