Learning Objectives

The purpose of the course is that of giving general historic and critical notions on ancient Italian Literature, on its periodization, and on the principal intellectual instruments for its knowledge. The course intends, in addition, to give adequate metodologies on the relationship between History of Vernacular Literature e History of Thought, and to give some general notions on Philology. It intends especially to offer a general survey on Dante's Studies and his poetry. There will be some systematic deepenings on the culture of the period and readings of the Comedy. Other deepenings on the minor works of Dante and on the Fortune of Dante on the following Centuries. 

Program

The Commedia and its title. The text of the Commedia and the applications of Modern and Contemporary Philology. The forst fortune of the Commedia in XIV Century: the ancient commentaries and Boccaccio. Petrarch in front of Dante. Dante and the poets of the XIII Century. Dante as a political poet. Dante's readings from Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso. The Fortune of Dante in the Quattrocento and Cinquecento.

Bridging Courses

The course will be tought by the Porofessor and in addition there will be some lectures given by another professor encharged.   

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Students are expected to show an adequate mastery of the basic information on the discipline, especially concerning its foundamental elements (textual analysis, knowledge of the contests, periodization, notion on Philology), and the relationship with other disciplines such as History and History of vernacular language. 

Students are expected to show a full comprehension of the main concepts of the course, and a skill in facing their complexity. In addition they are expected to be able to analyze a text of literature (both in latin and vernacular prose and poetry), with a special attention to their relationship with history of language. 

Students are expected to show a complete mastery of Italian language, and especially to be able to apply to the specific field of the critical language, with an adequate knowledge of the sectoral languages, and a skill in expose the subject.

Attendance

The students who intend to sit the exam as "frequentanti" are required to attend regularly. In particular, the exam will require the knowledge of everything is tought during the lectures.

Assessment

Oral exam. The interview will be based on the basic knowledge of the discipline, and on the mastery of analyzing the texts, and also on an adquate mastery in the exposition.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
