Learning Objectives
After calling in an elementary key concepts of statistical inference, the course wonts to provide some statistical tools aimed at acquiring data and processing them in order to analyze some of the services provided in the social and health care.
Program
Key concepts on probability theory.
Elementary introduction to the theory of probability distributions (binomial and normal).
Introduction to statistical inference dealing with problems related to the estimation and hypothesis testing.
The construction of social indicators, with examples related to the mobility of users and efficiency of service.
Submission of proposed monographs scheduled to exemplify the use of statistics in assessing the health and social services.
Bridging Courses
Knowledge of the key concepts of descriptive statistics.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Acquisition of the "culture" and the specific language of the discipline. Ability to identify the distinctive features of a statistical survey. Possess of some basic knowledge to reach the summary description of each situation and bivariate. Possess of some basic knowledge to understand the logic and results of inferential statistics.
They are required knowledge and understanding of specific issues of the discipline and of the mathematical language used of the formalization of the same. Students achieve this by adapting (or newly acquired) the previous school knowledge through participation in lectures and/or consultation of teaching materials provided.
The ability to apply the lessons learned should allow to face abstract situations and examples drawn from everyday life and consolidated use of discipline. Skills are acquired through a work of individual and collegial exercise class coordinated by the Teacher.
Judgment and reflection must allow independent choices about the settings to follow even without direct guidance. This will be used in each step of the learning process by also following the stimuli provided critical.
Students must pass the general hostility to the discipline gaining awareness for the use of specific languages and rigorous characteristic of each formalized discipline. The habit of speech and the exchange of information should take place by forcing the use of correct forms of communication.
Students are constantly encouraged to acquire a critical view on issues such as to allow the passage from theoretical preparation empirical application of the same in a more autonomous as possible. The dialectic confrontation with classmates and with the teacher will be used for the expansion of this skill.
Teaching Material
The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment
- Teaching
Lectures and exercises.
- Attendance
Participation in at least 3/4 of lessons.
- Course books
For the first part of the program the student can use the book:
J. F. Healey (1996), Statistics. A tool for social research, Wadsworth Publishing Company (Chapters 5, 6, 7, 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 all without SPSS/PC+ Procedures of example)
For the second part of the program, the student must contact the teacher for advice on materials in English
- Assessment
The examination involves the carrying out of a short essay on the basis of the outline provided by the teacher. The result of this test is independent assessment of profit may be integrated, at the express request of the student, by a supplementary oral examination.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
Additional Information for Non-Attending Students
- Teaching
