Learning Objectives

The course aims to introduce the theoretical contributions and applications of
Linguistics, with a special attention to Spanish world. The main basic objectives of the
course are four:
1. Define and determine the object of Linguistics .
2. Explain the most important concepts of the discipline and its basic terminology.
3.Apply the theoretical knowledge to practical assumption.
4.Analyze the different analytic levels of the linguistic phenomenon.
The course will also deal with an introduction about the different varieties of Spanish
language.

Program

1. The scientific nature of Linguistics.
2. Speech and languages
3. The levels of linguistics analysis . Linguistics disciplines
3.1. The phonetic and phonologic level. Phonetics and Phonology.
3.2. The morphologic level and world level. Morphology and Lexicology.
3.3. The sintagma level and the sentence level. Sintax and Grammar.
4. Semantics.
5.Other linguistic discipline: dialectology, sociolinguistics, non verbal communication,
pragmatics.
6. Spanish languages.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

The exam will be a written exam: students will be asked to answer questions about the
programme and the basic bibliography. They also will be asked to apply the theoretical
concepts to practical exercises.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Attendance

Students unable to attend the classes will be asked to study: the slides that will be at the
disposal of the students at the end of the course, the material included in the Basic
Bibliograpy and the Gutiérrez Araus M.ª L. et al. (2005), Introducción a la lengua española,
Madrid, Ramón Areces, chapters n. 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12. Students can find a
copy of the book in the College Library (Area Umanistica).
In any case, students who will not be able to attend the classes, are advised to contact
the teacher .
