Learning Objectives

Lessons aim to develop: the knowledge about manuscripts production; printing and bibliography birth; the evolution of printing technique and of typography books; the features of Italian publishing especially in 1800. Moreover the course is intended to provide the historical and methodological basics oh bibliography.

Program

During the course the following topics are considered. Technical, social and cultural aspects of typography. Results of typographical production in the social context. The change of authorship and the role of publisher. Development of Italian publishing. Publishers and readers in Italy during 1800. Publishing in the last century and today. Origins, evolution and task of bibliography; the main printed and electronic bibliographic resources. 

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The student must know: the evolution of documents production; the typography technique in 1500 and the following changes; the main peculiarity of Italian publishing; the circulation and the use of books in Italy during 1800. The student has to know also: birth and development of bibliography, conceptual framework and significant figures in the bibliographical field; practical aspects and tools for bibliographic research.

Assessment

Multiple choise test, in order to verify a clear knowledge and comprehension of the topics, concepts and aspects of both the disciplines.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Assessment

Oral examination, in order to verify the knowledge and comprehension of the main topics and concepts of both the disciplines and, moreover, the mastery of their specialist lexicon.
