Learning Objectives

General part: the course includes a discussion of the works of the main authors of modern philosophy (especially the centuries XVII and XVIII centuries).

Lecture part: will be dedicated to Descartes, to its vital contribution to the birth of modern philosophy, with references to classical and contemporary sources.

Program

The course is divided into two parts: in addition to trace the crucial stages of modern philosophy, the program proposes, as a monographic study (beyond the involvement of other authors, including sources, followers and critics), analysis and commentary some opera songs chosen by René Descartes (Descartes): the passions of the soul (1649).

The point at which the history of philosophy finds its fundamental task, not nell'aneddotica of the lives of philosophers or literary history of their writings, but in the problematic relationship between the real historical process and the genesis of ideas, here lies the contribution of Descartes that seeks to respond to the crisis that erupted in the Renaissance tradition with a nouvelle philosophie, capable of holding together the anthropological soul / body dualism and reason / passions.
