Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide the essential elements of Sociology of the Organization through the analysis of sociological theories articulated according to three main issues: the question of industrial, defined by the cornerstones technology and consensus (from Taylorism to Japanese model) the bureaucratic issues, defined by the axes functions of the rules and strategies of the parties (the "ideal type" of Weber, to debate post-Weberian to the latest guidelines on post-bureaucratic), the question of organization defined by the axes and decisions resources (from the model of bounded rationality Simon on subsequent developments until the culturalist approaches, the transaction cost economics, ecological approach to organizational populations, the neo-institutional school and the so-called sociology of translation).
The course also aims to the acquisition of knowledge relating to the dimension of organizational communication in the context of complex organizations, and the acquisition of theoretical and practical skills on analysis and management in public administration. Learning components that the course provides, constitute the needed know-how to carry out professional activities related to the planning and management of complex organizational systems and its internal and external communication.
Program
The course will address the following topics in the order below:
The main sociological theories of the organization
- Definition of the field of interest of the discipline: the sociology of organizations as a discipline that studies the organizational subjects in society, through the analysis of internal and external relations.
- Exposure of the main sociological theories about the organization through the analysis of three relevant issues: industrial, bureaucratic, organizational.
The organizational communication in complex organizations
- Analysis of the evolution of thinking on communication of the organizations (internal and external) within the about the organization theories
- Criteria for the analysis of the different levels of organizational communication in the current complex organizations and how to promote it in various organizations (according to the paradigm of organizational communication)
The Communication of Public Administration
- Theories, models and tools for public communication to promote internal and external communication in public organizations
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
The student must demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and theories provided by the course (sociological theories of organization and organizational communication); - the student must demonstrate the possession of the ability to use knowledge and concepts that allow to reason according to the specific logic of the discipline.
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - use the major theories of the organizations and communication in complex organizations; - Apply the techniques of organizational analysis and internal and external communications to a plurality of types of organization, with special attention to public organizations; - use the principles and criteria by which to analyze and plan the activities of institutional communication of a public administration.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
