Learning Objectives
The course is aimed at acquiring, through an overview on the history and culture of Germany of 16th and 17th century and today, the basic knowledge of German culture, especially so contrastive and intercultural. It will focus on the fundamental event of the Protestant Reformation in 1517 by Martin Luther, of which in 2017 marks the fifth centenary and which impregnates the subsequent history of Germany, from the Thirty Years War to the language unification up to the political one and the social, economical and historical events conducted by the Reformation itself. The further methodology and specialized texts start to a more analytical understanding of contemporary German culture.
Program
In the first part the text by Miegge on Luther will be critically analyzed, furthermore it will be illustrated the significance of the Reformation in German history and its many consequences. Some aspects of the political and social system of contemporary Germany on the basis of the text of von Schilling will then be examined.

- Understanding and critical skills to analyze aspects, historical and cultural events, placing them within a cultural overview of the historical development and their sociological and social repercussions.

- The acquisition capacity of methodological tools and bibliographical and critical skills to further develop their area of knowledge for the next levels of studies.

- Assessment
Oral examination. Attending students may use a term paper, to be carried out in groups, according to the criteria described by the teacher, which will integrate the final grade. Non-attending students are required to follow the syllabus as provided by the handbook.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Part of the course will be taught in German. The students can request to sit the final exam in German with an alternative bibliography.
