Learning Objectives

The course provides students with a general knowledge of the contemporary Italian fiction and introduces to the methods of textual analysis. During the course, students will develop critical skills, will learn to realize analysis of texts and will acquire an understanding of the development of the authors' poetics.

Program

The course examines the ways in which the human body has been a central object of representation in contemporary literature and explores the literary and socio-cultural context of the period, focusing on the formal and thematic aspects of novels. Particularly, lectures introduce students to poetics and works of some of the most representative contemporary authors as Italo Calvino, Gianni Celati, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Giorgio Manganelli, Alberto Moravia and Leonardo Sciascia.

- Knowledge and understanding of main authors and works of contemporary Italian fiction;

- Competence to realise a critical analysis of literary works;

- Capacity to evaluate stylistic, aesthetic, historical and cultural levels of literary works;

- Ability to communicate accurate informations in literary studies field;

- Acquiring methodological tools of textual analysis and literary-historical competencies.
