The course will be dedicated to the study of the Russian verbal system and, in particular, to the category of verbal aspect and verbs of motion. The main aim is to provide an introduction to verbal aspect and related concepts: the semantics of aspect, the lexical aspect or aktionsart, aspectual pairs and contextual uses. Russian verbs of motion will be studied taking in consideration typological perspective (unidirectional and multidirectional) and main meanings of their prefixes. The theoretical part will be accompanied by the analysis of the use of verbal aspects and verbs of motion in literary texts aimed to reveal problems of translation in both languages.
