Learning Objectives
This course will provide an overview of the main important events of the Chinese history from the archaic period to the twentieth century. In particular, the focus will be on the analysis of the philosophical and religious traditions, the ideological and political foundations that legitimize the dynastic succession and the formation of the republic.
Program
Principal historical events of pre-imperial China. The influence of the “traditions” on the formation of the Empire. The Sinocentric ideology and the Chinese foreign relationship. From the Chinese Empire to the concept of the Chinese nation.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
By the end of the course the students will be expected to have attained and demonstrated a general understanding of the principal events of the Chinese history. The students will be also able to contextualize and recognize the traditions, the political and ideological foundations belong to Chinese culture.
