Learning Objectives

The Cell Biology applied to Biotechnology course aims to capture the student with the knowledge of the major biological characteristics of cells and tissues of the human organism.

Program

1)     The development  of modern Cell Biology (historical profile and the basis of cell heterogeneity)

2)     Visualization, fractionation and in vitro culture of eukaryotic cells (optic and electronic microscopy; subcellular organelles; innovative methodologies for morpho-functional analyses of eukaryotic cells)

3)     Main cell  signaling mechanisms

4)     The cell biology of the cytoskeleton

5)     Main characteristics and functions of Cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions

6)     Immune system: biological basis and main biomolecular functions, B and T  lymphocytes, Ig and MHC systems

7)     The cell biology of neoplastic cells (main characteristics, proliferation and differentiation, oncogenes)

8)     Stem cells (niche, proliferation-differentiation-homing mechanisms, asymmetric division, stemness and cancerogenesis)

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The course will enable students to integrate knowledge derived from basic scientific disciplines through molecular, anatomical and physiological notions, in order  to reach a complete view of the human cellular  functions in normal and pathological conditions.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Assessment

Oral exam

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
