Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide a general view  of the Greek temples, from  the Geometric period till the Hellenistic age.

Program

Through a diachronic selection of significant contexts and monuments will be discussed the most important evidences concerning the Greek temples. They will be introduced through outlines of historical studies, positioned  in their historical and geographical context, related to the more relevant ancient literary sources. The monuments will be analyzed  in their specific structure and components, included aspects concerning rite and cult, and will be contextualized in the political, economical, social and cultural system that realized them.

The student will acquire a personal knowledge of the methodological background of the discipline, an ability to analyze, recognize and  contextualize archaeological sites and monuments correctly, an appropriate knowledge of the scientific language of the discipline.

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

During the course, specific readings will be suggested  in relation to the following publications, that are available in the archaeological sector of our library (Albani Palace, Via del Balestriere 2) or inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it.

Assessment

Through oral examination, the student must demonstrate acquisition of the methodological background of the discipline, the ability to analyze, recognize and contextualize archaeological sites and monuments correctly, the appropriate knowledge of the scientific language concerning the discipline.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
