Learning Objectives

An introduction to business English.  B1 level (European Framework)

Program

The course is designed to gain an insight into business English through reading, listening and speaking activities and writing business documents.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

- Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione: (knowledge and understanding) At the end of the course the students must demonstrate to have acquired the knowledge of the business English vocabulary presented in class and its use. This will be carried out through lectures, group work, written assignments, discussions and listening activities.

- Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate: the students must demonstrate to be able to apply their knowledge both for written and spoken English. This will be carried out through lectures, group work, written assignments, discussions and listening activities.

- Autonomia di giudizio: (making judgements) the students must be able to apply the knowledge acquired and to face different dynamics making their own judgements. This will be carried out through lectures, group work, written assignments, discussions and listening activities.

- Abilità comunicative: (communication skills) the students must demonstrate to be able to communicate effectively thanks to the vocabulary and structures learnt during the course.  This will be carried out through lectures, group work, written assignments, discussions and listening activities.

- Capacità di apprendere: (learning skills) The students must have developed appropriate learning skills so that they can deepen their knowledge. This will be carried out through lectures, group work, written assignments, discussions and listening activities.

Assessment

The students must pass both a written and an oral exam.

Written exam (1 hour):

-  Reading comprehension + true/false and or multiple choice questions.

-  Vocabulary and use of English

-  Grammar

-  A 100-150 word email

-  Listening test

-  Oral exam: being able to answer questions related to the topics presented in class.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
