Learning Objectives

The internship is intended to provide the student with basic knowledge of some of the techniques normally used in biochemistry and molecular biology. Primary objective is to explain to students the strategies to investigate the effects of exercise on subjects with metabolic pathologies

·

Program

The role of chronic inflammation in the onset and progression of metabolic syndrome

·  Importance of exercise in counteracting chronic inflammation in metabolic pathologies

·  Description of a research project on the subject

·  Biochemical Techniques (ELISA) and Molecular Biology (Extraction of Nucleic Acids, Reverse Transcription, PCR Techniques and Real Time PCR)

·  Formative training in the lab to learn molecular biology techniques

Bridging Courses

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

Student should be able to describe, with appropriate terminology, the strategies described (ELISA technique, nucleic acid preparation, reverse transcript, PCR and Real Time PCR). The laboratory activity will allow students to experiment and apply the described techniques concretely. Above all, they should be able to critically evaluate how to structure a study on the effects of exercise and what techniques apply to meet specific study needs.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

Pratical training in molecular biology lab

Didactic material, links to support material and any communications will be available within the platform Moodle- blended.uniurb.itplatform from the web site of the university

Teaching, Attendance, Course Books and Assessment

Teaching

Frontal lesson and lab trainimg

Attendance

Obligation to attend lessons and lab training

Course books

Didactic material, links to support material and any communications will be available within the platform Moodle- blended.uniurb.itplatform

Assessment

The evaluation will be done by preparing a written report. Student should be able to demonstrate the appropriate knowledge of the molecular and biochemical techniques described and applied during the internship. They have also to critically evaluate the applicability of these techniques to meet specific research needs.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
