Learning Objectives
1. The theoretical and practical knowledge of the materials and the execution techniques of wood-based artefacts (paintings, sculptures, furnishings and various artifacts), with particular reference to the support, to the overlapping layers (layers of preparation, polychrome layers, gilding, ), And with precise references to treatism and historical manuals;
2. Theoretical knowledge and basic practices to analyze the state of conservation and causes of degradation of wood support, preparatory layers and pictorial film;
3. Knowledge of materials and methods - traditional and innovative - to be used for stopping
Program
Program information.
First semester:
1. Wooden support (paintings, sculptures, furnishings and various artifacts): executive materials and techniques.
2. Preparation, polychrome and gilding: executive materials and techniques.
Second semester:
3. Degradation of media: techniques and materials for rehabilitation.
4. Degradation of painting and / or gilding: techniques and materials for fixing / fixing and consolidating.
Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and understanding.
At the end of the first year lab the student must have acquired all the theoretical knowledge necessary to:
1. recognition of the materials and techniques of execution of a wood-based artifact (paintings, sculptures, furnishings and other artifacts);
2. recognition of the causes of degradation of the wood support and of the above layers;
3. Identification of techniques and materials for the consolidation and restoration of the support, and fixation and consolidation of the pictorial layers.
Applied knowledge and understanding.
At the end of the first year lab the student must demonstrate that he / she is able to:
- recognize the quality of woody species: homoxil wood and etroxil wood (also in collaboration with other courses);
- recognize the techniques of making the media (assembly, construction, carving);
- recognize the various decorative techniques and materials used to make them;
- identify the causes of degradation of the wooden artifact;
- identify the methodology and the materials to be used for both the support and the overlapping layers.
Making judgments.
At the end of the first year lab the student will acquire:
- ability to use appropriate research methods to address the issues to be addressed;
- ability to evaluate different job hypotheses to address different cases of intervention.
Communication skills.
At the end of the first year lab the student must be able to formulate and argue for a conservative intervention project on the support and the preparatory and pictorial layers of the wooden artifact.
Learning skills.
At the end of the first year lab the student must be able to find and organize independently all the scientific and bibliographical information on the materials and techniques of a wooden artifact.
It will also have to know how to organize this information for the drafting of the conservative intervention project.

- Assessment
1. PowerPoint presentation on laboratory activities, documenting images, comments and references to the bibliography and texts recommended by the teachers, to be sent to the teacher a week before the exam.
2. Examination in written form consisting of:
to. Structured tests: 5 questions closed
b. Unstructured trials: 3 open question, with subsequent oral examination
The exam will be evaluated based on the following parameters:
1. Laboratory activity 50%,
which comprises:
- Technical-manual attitude, quantity and quality of work done;
Understanding problems and information;
- Autonomy in the management of job assignments;
- Punctuality and presence;
2. Exam Test 35%
3. PowerPoint 15%
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
