Learning Objectives

The course aims to provide the student

  • scientific support - anthropological, biological, cultural - essential to the understanding of the mechanisms that govern the historical languages, with special reference to Italian;
  • the theoretical basis of linguistic discipline, and the specific analytical method that enables them to recognize and describe the universal characteristics of human communication, including textual mechanisms
  • knowledge of different branches of historical linguistics as the study of cultural and environmental changes through the study of linguistic forms

Program

The program will be carried out as follows:

Glottology autonomous science (12 hours)

  • the background to F. Bopp
  • The historical-comparative linguistics in organismic paradigm
  • The Italian school

 Indo-European and historical languages ?? (12 hours)

  • the Memoire of Ferdinand de Saussure
  • The Indo-European vocalism and the Great Vowel Shift
  • The Indo-European consonants and Lautverschiebungen
  • Italian as a language of culture

The fundamentals of historical linguistics (12 hours)

  • linguistic change
  • the language contact
  • onomastics and toponymy
  • geography of the world's languages:
  • The course will enable students to understand the mechanisms of cultural diversity through the ability of conscious observation of linguistic diversity

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

The student will be able to assess the quality of the differences between language and dialect, to know and describe the characteristics of the native language, to distinguish the expressive potential linked to the different registers, using the historical perspective in the approach to forms and meanings

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
