Learning Objectives
The course aims at providing students with a firm understanding of the Spanish History language and the contemporary Spanish-speaking world, following a cultural approach based on couple language/civilization.
Program
The first part of the course concentrates on the Spanish History Language and introduce the student on the origin, development and changes of the language over the centuries until the formation of the modern Spanish, including the contemporary idiomatic variations. It will be examined the notions of historical grammar, with particular attention to next topics: Spanish, Romance language, the latin in the Iberian Peninsula, Linguistics influences: Germanism and Arabism, the development of Modern Spanish Language, from Golden Age to 19th Century, the “Hispanicisation” of American continent , the Peninsular and Latin American Spanish: linguistic unity and diversity.
The second part of the course proposes introduce the student to the Spanish-speaking world, with particular attention to the presence of Spanish as dominate language in the world as well as its future prospects as an international language. It will be examined with particular attention to next topics: Spanish an international language, Spanish: national, dominant and minority language; Spain's Iberian Peninsula and minority languages in today's Spain, Spanish language in the world, Language policy and Spanish-speaking world.

Oral Exam in Spanish
