Learning Objectives
Detect / create continuities with previously acquired knowledge;
Acquire specific jargon;
Acquire critical instruments of analysis;
Recognize the literary text as an arena of negotiation between the past and the present;
Understand US cultural-literary identity;
Be able to distinguish between different genres and authors;
Find intersections and interfaces between disciplines (history, geography, film studies, political science, etc.);
To be able to apply the methodology of study and research to other aspects of US culture
Program
After a literary survey from the origins to pur present time, we shall concentrate on the issues here explored: Captivity tales (Rowlandson), The Yellow Wallpaper (Gilman), A Whisper in the Dark (Alcott), Trifles (Glaspell), Big Driver (King). Film Gaslight (Cukor) and tv series Twin Peaks (Lynch) will be discussed.

knowledge and understanding of historical-cultural context, critical instrument for text analysis to study Anglo-American literature from the origins to the 19th century (1st year) and from the 19th century to today (second year)
