The course aims to give some fundamentals on metabolic alterations strictly related to nutrition and examples related to malnutrition (under and overnutrition). Furthermore, the nutritional needs that are found in particular physiological situations (pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly, etc.) and in some pathologies (intolerances and allergies, favism, phenylketonuria, etc.) will be examined.
Program
Metabolic alterations linked to protein metabolism (eg phenylketonuria, amino acid malabsorption, etc.); the metabolism of lipids (eg hypo-hyporlipidemia etc.); the metabolism of carbohydrates (eg favism, glycogenosis, galactosemia, etc.).
The metabolic alterations resulting from an imbalance in the supply of nutrients. Body composition and nutritional status.
Nutritional standards and food guidelines
Metabolism of adipose tissue and obesity.
Thinness. Malnutrition.
Food intolerances and allergies.
Iodine and endemic goiter.
Nutritional needs of pregnant and breastfeeding women: energy, proteins, vitamins and minerals.
Nutrition and growth: the newborn; the baby from 6 to 12 months; the child up to 10 years; adolescence
Nutrition and exercise: substrates consumed during sports; relationship of substrate consumption with the duration and intensity of effort; role of proteins in muscle metabolism; vitamins and minerals in physical activity; water-saline balance.
Nutrition in the elderly: effects of nutritional deficiencies on the elderly population.

- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
