Learning Objectives

 Ciò significa, come ultima acquisizione, la padronanza dei concetti essenziali che possano guidare l’allievo allo studio dei fenomeni letterari, in conformità con uno degli aspetti fondamentali della Laurea Triennale e in specie con le competenze specifiche che il Curriculum Filologico Letterario Moderno provvede a formare. In particolare il corso provvederà a fornire nozioni e strumenti metodologici specifici intorno alla Letteratura Italiana moderna, alla sua prosa, geografia e periodizzazione, alla problematiche storiche e di genere ad essa connesse.

The course is aimed at acquiring the fundamental historical-critical and methodological tools for the knowledge of Italian literature. This implies, as the last acquisition, the mastery of the essential concepts that can guide the student to the study of literary phenomena, in accordance with one of the fundamental aspects of the Larea Triennale and especially with the specific skills that the Modern Literary Philological Curriculum provides to form. In particular, the course will provide specific methodological notions and tools on modern Italian literature, its prose, geography and periodization, the historical and gender issues related to it.

Program

First semester. General notions of history of the European novel. The Italian novel in its links with other literatures. Manzoni and the historical novel. Analytical reading of Promessi sposi. The 'Storia della colonna infame'. The novel in the second half of the nineteenth century. Analytical readings of Mastro don Gesualdo. The novel of the early twentieth century and Pirandello.

Second semester. Nineteenth-century literary development in Italy. History, national identity, prose literature. Elaboration and dissolution of the  traditional forms of the novel in the late twentieth century. Neorealism. The avant-gardes. Analytical readings of Gadda, Sciascia, Vittorini, Calvino.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

- The student must show possession and mastery of basic knowledge related to ancient Italian literature, with particular reference to its elements of literary geography, periodization, literary and poetic genres.

- The student will have to show the understanding of the concepts and contents foreseen by the course; it will also have to provide examples of reading texts, showing adequate analytical skills and the ability to connect specific analyzes to the general historical framework.

- The student must show adequate competence in the specific language of literary studies, such as to allow reasoning according to the tools of the discipline.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

Besides the lectures held by the official teacher, there will be held other supplementary lectures by some guest professors, about subjects related to the course or about subjects near and complementary to the subject of the course.

Teaching

Lectures in the class. The students may be requested some readings during the course, in order to be able to attend the classes with a specific preparation.

Attendance is compulsory

Course books

A dossier of teaching materials (lecture notes) will be made available to students attending the course. The dossier includes (in substance) texts related to some topics of the lessons, and is in effect the subject of exam for students attending. In addition to all the topics presented by the teacher, the students attending the course will have to prepare the following texts (some of them included in the aforementioned dispensation): TEXTS A. Assessment

Oral exam. The attending student is expected to discuss any subject treated by the teacher during the classes, including the lectures held by other guest teachers. He is expected, in addition, to demonstrate the knowledge and comprehension of the above mentioned texts. All the students will be equally judged according the following criteria: (1) Konowledge of the matter. (2) Capacity of reasoning adequately on the subject of the questions. (3) Capacity of exposing the matter with an appropriate language.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.

Additional Information for Non-Attending Students

Teaching

Non-attending students are invited to follow the program on line and prepare allt the texts. All the students will be equally judged according the following criteria: (1) Konowledge of the matter. (2) Capacity of reasoning adequately on the subject of the questions. (3) Capacity of exposing the matter with an appropriate language.

Attendance

Attendance is non compulsory.

Non attending students are requested to prepare the following texts (for any problem they are invited to contact the teacher)

Notes

The course is associated with an integrative course of "Laboratory of non-fiction writing". The latter will take place in the second semester for an expected duration of 18 hours, with lectures, simulations of learning and self-assessment through blended learning, written final exam, subsequent correction and vote by the instructor in charge. The course in question will correspond to a cfu award. The attendance to the course, or in any case the verification of the competences offered in it, will be intended as preparatory to the examination of Italian Literature, and the final exam will be considered an integral part of the Italian Literature exam.
