Learning Objectives

The classic in the contemporary 2. The course of Philosophy of culture aims to delineate and analytically and critically thematize the relationship between culture, philosophy, politics and education through the analysis of the thought and work of Niccolò Machiavelli (part one) and of Georg Simmel (part two).

Program

·  • Classic & Contemporary: Machiavelli yesterday and today.

·  • Culture, philosophy, history and political education: through Machiavelli.

·  • Modern destiny. Machiavelli, Hobbes and Vico: the critical theory of the first Habermas, the classics and the contemporary.

·  • The philosophical relationism of Georg Simmel.

·  • Simmel and the philosophy of culture.

          • Simmel: modern pedagogy, the conflict of life and the philosophical spirit of teaching.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)

With regards to the discipline, the student has to show the possession of:

  • the mastery of basic knowledge;
  • the understanding of the fundamentals of the discipline;
  • the capacity of using skills and concepts according to the logic of the discipline.

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the lecturer in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the lecturer specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it

Supporting Activities

During the course, interdisciplinary integrative seminars will be held by the professors of prof. Antonio De Simone and the experts on the subject Davide D'Alessandro, Luciano Massi and Alessandra Peluso. An additional seminar will be held during the first semester held by Alessandra Peluso on issues related to the volume by Georg Simmel, L’educazione come vita. Per una nuova pedagogia della scuola (Mimesis 2019) and a conference-study seminar (21 October 2019) on the theme "Modern destiny. The critical theory from Adorno to Habermas "with the participation of Italian and foreign scholars.

Class attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended.

Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.

To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
