Learning Objectives
The aim of the course is to give the students the basic concepts of landform analysis and interpretation, focusing on the natural processes that generate and modify landforms.
Program
Relief Shaping
Introduction. Key concepts and definitions. Geomorphological agents and processes. Physical environment and anthropization; impact and risk. Introduction to geomorphological cartography. Endogenous dynamics and landforms. Exogenous geomorphological processes. Weathering: processes, landforms and products. Karst. Landforms conditioned by the geological structures: tectonic landforms and landforms produced by selective erosion. Processes and landforms on the hillslopes: mass movements and slope-wash. The fluvial system. Fluvial processes and landforms. Channel planforms and subdivisions. Stream terraces and alluvial fans. Coastal geomorphology. Near-shore processes and landforms. Coastal types and their subdivisions. Coastal lakes and lagoons. River mouths.
Climate Geomorphology
Processes and landforms of the periglacial, glacial, hot-dry, hot-humid and temperate morphoclimatic systems.

Learning Achievements (Dublin Descriptors)
Knowledge and understanding. At the end of the course the student must have achieved a thorough knowledge of geomorphological basics and be able to identify and classify the main forms of relief in different geological and climatic contexts.
Applying knowledge and understandingmust. At the end of the course the student must be able to understand the origin and evolution of landforms as a result of the different processes shaping the earth's relief and in connection to geological factors, climatic-paleoclimatic conditions, and anthropization.
Making judgements. At the end of the course the student must have acquired an autonomous skill to relate the landforms of a given area to different -both active and relict- morphogenetic mechanisms, as well to outline the overall evolution trend of the same landforms.
Communication skills. At the end of the course the student must have achieved a good expertise to communicate his own knowledge and appraisals on geomorphological issues in a clear way and exposing them with appropriate language and examples.
Learning skills. At the end of the course the student must have attained a good degree of autonomy in both dealing with geomorphological issues and research information suitable for deepening this subject.

For an introduction to gomorphological cartography, the student can consult the text:
D’OREFICE M., GRACIOTTI R. (2015) – Rilevamento geomorfologico e cartografia. Dario Flaccovio Editore, 359 pp.
- Assessment
Learning outcomes will be evaluated through an oral examination consisting of a minimum of three questions. The aim of the assessment is to evaluate the understanding and mastery of the topics of the program, the achievement of an adequate presentation skill and of an appropriate technical language. The grades are on a scale of 30.
- Disability and Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)
Students who have registered their disability certification or SLD certification with the Inclusion and Right to Study Office can request to use conceptual maps (for keywords) during exams.
To this end, it is necessary to send the maps, two weeks before the exam date, to the course instructor, who will verify their compliance with the university guidelines and may request modifications.
