Learning Objectives

PROFICIENT USER C1

Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

Program

First semester

Listening skills will be taught and practiced by using listening material from various sources at level C1.

Topic- Survival

The program includes the following films:

A Street Cat Named Bob. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode - 2016

Full Monty. Directed by Peter Cattaneo - 1997

We want Sex (Made in Dagenham). Directed by Nigel Cole -2010

The historical and cultural background, vocabulary and idiomatic phrases from the films will be studied.

The Big Issue- Magazine

The Castaways or Vote for Caliban- Poem by Adrian Mitchel

Second Semester

Listening skills will be taught and practiced by using listening material from various sources at level C1 and C2.

Topic – The fight for rights

The program includes the following films:

I, Daniel Blake. Directed by Ken Loach -2016

Suffragette. Directed by Sarah Gavron- 2015

Sorry We Missed You. Directed by Ken Loach- 2019

The historical and cultural background, vocabulary and idiomatic phrases from the films will be studied.

Online shopping- YouTube videos.

 

Teaching Material

The teaching material prepared by the language assistant in addition to recommended textbooks (such as for instance slides, lecture notes, exercises, bibliography) and communications from the language assistant specific to the course can be found inside the Moodle platform › blended.uniurb.it
