Program
Forms of narration: Fairy tale, poem, short story
The course will open with an analysis of the narrative that can be conducted across different literary genres. We will examine poem, short story and fairy tale, seen in their peculiarities. We will proceed to the identification of the fairy-tale structures of two masterpieces of Italian literature of the fourteenth century. Some songs from Dante's Comedy will be proposed, paraphrased and analyzed, read in the key of the hero's quête subjected to the most traditional initiatory test: the catabasis, which is followed by a complete rebirth. The following songs will be read: Inferno I, II, III, XVII, XXVII, XXXIV Purgatorio I, V, XXVII, XXVIII.
We will move on to the Decameron by prioritizing the analysis of some short stories that rework evident fairy tale plots, we will note the processes of historicization and verisimilitude implemented by Boccaccio in order to obtain a rationalization of the elements belonging to the fairy tale genre. We will read Decameron II 3; II 5; II 9; V 3; V 7; V 8, V 9.
